It’s time to re-discover our passions and, for those who’ve been longing for their first taste of live music, Glamis Castle has the perfect musical treat this weekend.

Over the past 18 months, there’s been so many much-loved activities, past-times and grand-days-out that have had to take back seat. It’s been challenging for us all. Thankfully, and joyously, the world is beginning to open-up again and some of the simple pleasures are returning.

For many, being able to go to a concert and enjoy live music is something people just can’t wait to experience again. Equally, for some, the idea of large crowds still feels, let’s say, a bit ‘alien’.

That’s why we are so excited to be hosting a series of open-air live music events this summer in the grounds of Glamis – the perfect outdoor live event experience in the most dramatic of settings.

To add to the drama, this weekend we are welcoming a Pop-up Opera from Scottish Opera to perform a stunning series of three bite-sized performances perfect for music lovers of all ages.

The family-friendly shows, telling the often laugh-out-loud adventures of Gilbert & Sullivan, offer the perfect introduction to opera for children (and adults!). There’s three performances to look out for this Saturday, July 24th. Each will be brought to life by a sparkling array of talent from Scottish Opera both audially and visually. Look out for the illustrations to help the audience follow the characters’ shenanigans.

For ardent Gilbert & Sullivan fans (and we know there are many!), the three pint-sized performances are:

A Little Bit of Iolanthe – 12.00noon

A Little Bit of The Gondoliers – 2.30pm

A Little Bit of The Mikado – 6.00pm

With lost loves, heirs to Kingdoms and risking executioners’ blocks, the shows will be a rip-roaring musical adventure to behold.

It sounds like the best kind of musical tonic doesn’t it? And all within the historic and atmospheric grounds of Glamis Castle. What a way to start enjoying live music again.

To make the experience even more memorable, why not venture into the Castle Kitchen restaurant to enjoy our delectable a la carte menu. Look out for our early-bird supper from 4.30pm-5.30pm and a special post-opera dinner from 6.45pm-8.00pm. Perfect for before or after the performances.

So, if you do just one thing this weekend, make sure it’s a trip to Glamis for celebration of music and a beautiful day out for all the family.

Scottish Opera are visiting this Saturday and returning to perform again on Saturday 28th August, so if you can’t make it this weekend, there’s another chance to catch them next month. To book tickets visit the Scottish Opera website here.
