Meet Steven Cumming
As the newly appointed General Manager at Glamis Castle, Steven Cumming is excited to continue the Glamis tradition of offering a warm welcome to the castle’s many visitors.

Tell us a little bit about your role.
“I am the General Manager and responsible for overseeing all the departments at Glamis Castle and improving efficiency while managing the company’s overall operations. I lead a fantastic team where we are all focused on delivering a warm welcome and memorable experience for all our visitors.”
What attracted you to working at Glamis Castle?
“I emigrated from South Africa to Scotland with my family in June 2021. My family is from Forfar, so when I was growing up, my gran kept telling me about Glamis Castle. So, when I had the opportunity to come and work here, I knew she’d have been very proud and excited about it. It makes the place extra special to me. It is a great achievement to work for the Strathmore family and be part of Glamis Castle. I feel very blessed and grateful to be the General Manager here”
What would you say is unique about what you do?
“At Glamis, no day is ever the same as there is so much happening here whether that’s welcoming tour groups or hosting a function in the castle. Every day is unique and full of fun.”
What was your first impression when you saw the castle?
“You don’t realise how big it is until you actually walk inside it. You can look at pictures and you don’t really understand how impressive it is until you see it for yourself.”
What are you looking forward to doing in your new role?
“After coming out of covid and seeing the market slowly come back to normal, I’m looking forward to seeing more and more visitors coming to Glamis Castle as well as introducing lots of new events and activities for people of all ages, particularly children and families to enjoy.”
What’s your favourite part of your job?
“That is a hard one as I enjoy every part of my job. Working with such a wonderful team, welcoming people from around the world and seeing guests leave with smiles let’s us know we are doing our job right.”
What can visitors expect when they visit Glamis?
“From the warm welcome from our staff and amazing food in our Castle Kitchen Restaurant to the breathtaking tours, walks in the gardens and to the beautiful gifts in our Pavillion Gift Shop, Glamis Castle has something for everyone. For me personally, every time I walk through the castle’s front door I always think about the history that’s walked through that door. There’s hundreds of years of stories.”
