So that visitors can prepare, here is everything you need to know about getting around the castle and grounds.
What you need to know before you arrive
Throughout the castle and gardens, we have endeavoured to make all areas as accessible as we possibly can. Here is some more information about what to expect across the site.
Access within Glamis Castle
Guided tours of Glamis Castle involve several staircases, including one with 42 wide steps and a sturdy metal handrail. You’ll encounter uneven surfaces such as flagstones, rugs and carpets. Seating is provided in many rooms, and your tour guide will be happy to advise which seats are suitable for use. There is no lift access to the upper floors of the Castle.
Wheelchair users and registered carers (with ID) are very welcome, and receive free entry. Blue Badge parking is available right beside the Pavilion Shop, where you’ll also find our accessible restroom. The entire ground floor is step‑free, including the Coach House, which hosts our current exhibition and a video tour of the Castle. Along the ground‑floor corridor you’ll discover helpful information boards, fascinating history displays, and a 3D model of the Castle.
Access to Eateries
The Castle Kitchen Restaurant is located on the ground floor and is accessible by wheelchair. We offer ramp access to reach the Old Larder located in the courtyard.
Access to our Gardens
Although some of the routes around our gardens have rougher paths, it is possible to visit both the Italian Garden and Kitchen Garden via wheelchair/buggy.
A manual wheelchair is available to borrow, subject to availability.
