A lovely local tradition we’re proud to share with Glamis Primary School! 🎃
Each year, Glamis Castle and the wider Strathmore Estate are delighted to provide pumpkins for the school’s annual pumpkin carving competition, inspiring pupils to get creative and bring their ideas to life.
Judging took place today, with our General Manager, Steven Cumming, taking on the very difficult task of choosing the winners from so many wonderful entries.
🎉 Congratulations to this year’s winners: 🥇 1st place – Rosie 🥈 2nd place – Quinn 🥉 3rd place – Caleb
A huge well done to all the pupils who took part. It was wonderful to see so many imaginative designs and such creativity on display!

On this day, 30 years ago, Earl Michael’s Bridge at Glamis Castle was officially reopened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother on 24 October 1996.
Named in honour of Michael, 18th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, the Queen Mother’s great-nephew, the bridge stands as a reminder of his commitment to the care and restoration of Glamis’s historic grounds. From the restoration of the Pinetum and Kitchen Garden to the reconstruction of the bridge itself, his work helped preserve important features of the estate for future generations.
Situated along the northern edge of the Pinetum, the bridge connects the woodland with the Kitchen Garden, spanning the Dean Water below. This small burn drains the Loch of Forfar before continuing on its journey towards the River Tay.
Originally built in 1890, the bridge had fallen into disrepair before being carefully restored, incorporating elements of the earlier structure. Its reopening was a special occasion, bringing The Queen Mother to Glamis, her Scottish childhood home to which she remained so closely connected.
It was a lovely autumn day, with family and members of staff gathered to mark the occasion.
Thirty years on, Earl Michael’s Bridge stands as a lasting testament to the 18th Earl’s contribution to Glamis’s rich history and the enduring commitment to preserving the estate for generations to come 💙
