Our Head Gamekeeper Neal Gregory, shares more about his role across our Estate.

What do you think makes Glamis so special?
“There’s a number of things. It was a real ‘wow’ moment seeing the castle for the first time. There’s a bit of everything here really. The castle, the history, the very beautiful Angus countryside, the fertile ground, the heather moorland, the woodland – these are things that make Glamis such a special and unique place.”
What do you do at Glamis?
“My job is the Head Gamekeeper of Strathmore Estate, of which Glamis Castle is a part of. The main focus of what I do is to manage the conservation of the Estate. Along with our team, we work extremely hard to conserve the topography of the Estate – both to the benefit of our guests, but also the local community. In addition, we host a number of simulated shoot days, all year round.”
Tell us more about Simulated Shooting?
What can clients expect from a simulated shoot day?
“Clients can expect to come here in some fantastic scenery, enjoy socialising with their friends and some great varied drives that include shooting simulated driven partridges, pheasants and grouse. The drives are very different so no drive seems the same, offering good variety throughout the day. The variety of people who come to shoot simulated game here include groups of friends, syndicates who haven’t seen each other for some time so this offers them a chance to get together and just have a good time together.”
What skills are needed to take part in a simulated shoot day?
People coming on a simulated shoot day here at Glamis need to be able to shoot to a reasonable level. Novices may find it a challenge, however we do have the ability to change the drives and change the way the clays are coming out and select drives that are suitable to everybody’s ability.”
Can you share some feedback from past participants?
“The biggest feedback we receive is the fact that our drives are so varied. We have high pheasant drives where you have lots of time shooting a target but then we can go from that drive to a simulated grouse where you need to use snap shooting as you don’t have very long on the targets. We offer a wide variety of drives so if a group was to come back then you can choose to have a day that features your favourite drives or not do the same drives again if you don’t want to.”
