Agriculture

Farming is a thriving agricultural business on Strathmore Estate. There is also a number of  traditional as well as innovative tenanted farms that have been at the heart of the estate for generations.

Tenanted farms

The land of Strathmore Estates are farmed by a number of tenants including Strathmore Farming Company which is owned by Lord Strathmore. The land ranges from low lying arable ground, to upland and hill ground. This leads to most of the farmers having a mixed farming system including crops and livestock.

A focus on modern agricultural practices

Strathmore Farming Company has for many years supported biodiversity but planting and managing hedges and grass strips in a nature friendly way. In recent years it has expanded its efforts to farm in a way that is kinder to nature, for example sowing using no till techniques, mob grazing cattle and reducing artificial inputs where it can. Although farming in an increasingly nature friendly way is important it does have to be balanced with the needs of production, whether it be food, drink or fibre.
